A screenwriter uses a special format to write stories for visual presentation. It's usually a freelance position.
Let's begin
Being a screenwriter is a hassle. Not for lack of fun or fulfillment, but for the simple reason of where screenplays end up. In the hands of millionaires, which is all right sometimes. The goal of a screenwriter is to see his script sold which will keep them working as their credits accumulate and their bills are paid. Screenwriting also includes television writing and video game writing, but a film screenwriter is the alpha. So, a human being sits down , writes an amazing spy film script where the spy is actually a cyborg in love with a fax machine. The next step is it falls into the hands of an actor, producer or director who is interested in making it into a motion picture. Well, more like the agent or secretary of an actor, producer of director. Then there is some sort of negotiation that involves money and writing credit, but like a majority of screen writers who pass off their work have zero control of it anymore and that’s when the millionaires do whatever they want to it. Once it’s bought from the writer, most likely that particular screenwriter doesn't have enough leverage to maintain any creative control. The resulting attitude depends entirely on the writer. Some hand off their work, collect a check and get back to writing a new script. While others may see the script as their little baby that isn't available for massive edits. But it splits again, there are original screenplays and adapted screenplays. The original ones are my favorite because they are a little more unique like many novels. Where as many adapted screenplays are based on novels and other times based on video games, plays, comics, or even television shows. Whether it’s a historical fiction, a novel adaptation or original screenplay, screenwriters use screenwriting as the blueprints to the movies.
Day in the life
Like any artist or writer the day might not start with a alarm clock or end at a reasonable hour. Creativity has many unique forms of motivation and scheduling. A story may come into mind and an outline may begin or they may just burst right into the script itself. On films like Toy Story 3 multiple writers work together in an attempt to create a masterpiece, especially since Disney films such as that get such a massive viewing most writers would jump at the opportunity to be involved.
Job Search
Being a good writer may not always be enough to get your work out there. The best screenplay ever written could have been passed over by an executive because they didn't like the title. To understand that scenario is to understand the unceasing flood of screenplays written and sent out every year in the hopes of it being purchased. Having an agent helps, getting an agent who’s actually worth something is something else entirely. There are competitions that the winner or runner ups automatically get a deal with an agent who can get your work read by people who have money and be willing to pay you and increase your value as a writer.
Skills education
There is no formal education necessary other than the ability to complete sentences and spell words correctly. Attending college for screenwriting and even completing an masters program in screenwriting wouldn’t hurt. Some don’t realize screenwriters even exist, let alone that there is a job and college major designated to it and that it is one of the most competitive fields.
Salary
The amount a screenwriter gets paid depends entirely on who’s buying in and of course how good it is. Some writers for television make base salaries and a few thousand per episode while some film writers sell screenplays for up to 5 million dollars. Peter Jackson made over 20 million dollars for writing, producing and directing King Kong in 2005
